What is Restorative Practices?

Restorative Practices is an emerging social science that values relationships and includes a variety of informal and formal practices for building and repairing relationships. This trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practice provides a clear and comprehensive approach to creating safe and supportive school communities.

Restorative Practices can be merged with curriculum, programs, and educational initiatives to increase outcomes.

Restorative TCS will teach educators to use Restorative Practices to:
  • Increase academic achievement
  • Increase Social and Emotional Learning skills
  • Increase staff and student attendance
  • Increase staff and student engagement
  • Decrease staff and student mobility
  • Increase leadership opportunities
  • Provide Service Learning opportunities
  • Decrease conflict amongst staff members
  • Decrease student detentions and suspensions
  • Decrease disruptive behavior
  • Increase students’ willingness to take responsibility for their actions
  • Increase the social and academic performance of students that are:
    • Impacted by trauma,
      Disconnected from school,
